How not to become a victim when buying property in Turkiye

For some, the acquisition of real estate is a regular cyclical process, for others it is a big event in life. But for both, it is very important that the purchase transaction is clean and legal.

• Transfer money directly to the developer's account (no agent, no intermediary, no real estate agency).

• Transfer money from your account in a currency other than Turkish Lira.

• Read the contract carefully and translate it before signing.

• Do not pay in cash, only bank transfer.

• Carefully check the documents of the developer, especially everything related to land zoning and building permits.

• Make an independent assessment of the property. A big difference between the assessment and the market value should alert you.

• You must be aware of your risks when purchasing a property at a “lower” cost in the contract.

• Do not delay with the registration of TAPU (title deed) in your name.

• When buying in installments, soberly assess your capabilities. The monthly payment in foreign currency is quite high.
